YouthCARE (Youth for Cultural Appreciation & Racial Equality) was established in 1974 as Camp Sunrise, a residential summer camp for youth working in the Minneapolis and St. Paul summer youth employment programs. In 1977, it expanded to a year-round program to provide significantly greater opportunities for youth to stay connected with the organization during the school year. YouthCARE partnered with the Little Earth Community in Minneapolis and the McDonough Community in St. Paul in 1990 to establish the Young Women's Mentoring Program. In 1993, the name of the organization was changed from Camp Sunrise to YouthCARE in order to more accurately reflect the organization's year-round commitment to cultural appreciation and racial equality as well as the diversity of our programs and services.
YouthCARE's mission is to promote respect for self and others, develop future leaders, and provide youth with positive multicultural activities and relationships with caring adults.
